A Beginner's Guide to Blending Modes ️
To make this as easy as possible, you can split the options into 4 smaller sections.
Making white pixels transparent
Making Black pixels transparent
Making Grey Pixels transparent
Interpreting the difference between pixels
Starting with the first area
Let's use multiply as an example to make the white pixels transparent and the blacks stay the same.
This is a great option for masks or matte layers.
The next area is the one I use most often to composite effects. To make black pixels transparent I like to use screen.
A good option for textured files is to use something from the grey section such as hard light.
If you have a mix of colours, you may want to use something like difference to blend between them.
