“You know people, this is Daddy U Roy, and this is the younger New Roy” New Roy, nome d'arte di Matteo Rocca, è un cantante romano classe '93 cresciuto ispirandosi ai grandi toaster Dj ed MC giamaicani, per poi sviluppare un suo stile che mescola la vecchia scuola al pop, abbracciando afrobeat e dancehall. Sotto lo pseudonimo di Ras Mat-I esordisce nel 2010 e continua fino al 2020 pubblicando 9 singoli in vinile e arrivando ad esibirsi nel 2018 e nel 2019 sul palco della Dub Academy al Rototom Sunsplash il più grande festival Reggae europeo che si tiene ogni anno in Spagna. Negli anni successivi è riuscito a collaborare e ad aprire concerti delle grandi celebrità della musica giamaicana tra cui Big Youth, Protoje, Horace Andy, Trinity, Ranking Joe, Shinehead, Earl 16, Jah 9, Kenny Knots, e U Roy che durante il suo ultimo live a Roma lo chiamò “the younger New Roy”. Da questo aneddoto decide di cambiare il suo nome d'arte in New Roy e inizia a collaborare con il talentuoso produttore Hit The Road Recordando nuovi sound e con il quale pubblica Blessing, il suo primo album.
