Rocket Lab will launch a dedicated mission for Capella Space, a provider of SAR imagery data and solutions for government and commercial applications.‘A Sky Full of SARs will be Rocket Lab’s fifth overall launch for Capella Space across multiple launch contracts beginning in 2020.
The launch window opens on August 11, 2024, for two weeks, with the launch window opening earlier each day as the days progress through the two-week window. The following are the timings for the first day of the mission’s launch window. For subsequent days, see Rocket Lab’s website for launch timing updates.
The mission will deploy Capella’s Acadia-3 SAR satellite, a synthetic aperture radar satellite for Earth imagery and observation, to a mid-inclination 615km circular orbit to add to Capella’s existing SAR satellite constellation in low Earth orbit.
‘A Sky Full of SARs’ will be Rocket Lab’s fifth launch overall for Capella Space across multiple launch contracts beginning in 2020. The mission will deploy Acadia-3, the following satellite to join Capella Space’s constellation of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites to deliver high-quality and resolution SAR imagery globally.
Previous Electron launches that have delivered Capella Space satellites to orbit include ‘We Love The Nightlife’ and ‘Stronger Together’, launched in 2023 from Rocket Lab’s launch sites in the United States and New Zealand, and the ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Optical’ mission, launched in 2020.
Like earlier Capella Space launches with Electron, this mission will be supported by a Rocket Lab-manufactured Motorized Lightband; separation systems for the satellite to attach to and deploy from Electron once in space.
Capella Space provides easy access to frequent and timely information affecting dozens of industries worldwide, including defense and intelligence, supply chain, insurance, maritime, etc. Its market-leading SAR satellites are matched with unparalleled data infrastructure to quickly deliver reliable global insights that sharpen our understanding of the changing world, improving decisions about conservation and security on Earth.
