EU's new Entry-Exit System (EES)

What is EES?
It's an automated system that will replace the physical stamping of passports at EU borders and will electronically record the entry and exit of non-EU nationals traveling to and from the Schengen Area.
Who Does It Affect?
The system applies to non-EU travelers, including UK citizens, who do not require a visa to enter the Schengen Area. It does not apply to residents or those with long-stay visas.
Participating Countries:
All EU member states (except Cyprus and Ireland) and four non-EU Schengen countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland) will implement the EES.
How It Works:
Travellers will need to scan their passports or other travel documents at a self-service kiosk when crossing an EU external border.
The system will capture biometric data, including facial scans and fingerprints, along with personal details like name, date, and place of entry/exit. This data will be stored for three years.
