Shortly after birth, Joy was flown to the Methodist Children's Heart Institute where she was surrounded by a team of specialists who worked collaboratively to mend her atrial ventricular septal defect - a relatively common type of CHD causing holes between the two chambers of the heart. "Without the help that we received here, Joy wouldn't be able to have the life that she's going to have now," her mother, Katelyn Stone said.
