The CONCATENATE function in Excel is a handy tool for concatenating two strings in the same cell. CONCATENATE accepts text string arguments up to 255 characters and does not affect the rest of the worksheet. CONCATENATE can be used with any data type, making it a great option if you need to use it frequently. The CONCATENATE syntax is required, but its result is always a text string which makes it an easier formula to work with than many other options in Excel that only produce numbers or formulas.
In order to use the CONCATENATE Function in Excel, you must know the syntax of the formula. The CONCAT function can join first and last names. First name is in column B, while last name is in column C. If you want to concatenate both the first and last name of a person, you will need to reference cell B1 and column B2. You can extend the formula to include the rest of the data in columns A and B, too.
CONCATENATE(text1, [text2], ...)
text1 (required) - The first item to join.
textn (optional) - Additional items to join. CONCATENATE Function accepts up to 255 text arguments separated by commas, and returns the result as a single string with all of them joined together into one cell.
The CONCATENATE function in Excel is an easy way to combine multiple strings into one cell.
When working with text strings in Excel, the CONCATENATE function is a useful tool. You can use it to combine the text in multiple cells into one cell. When used with the TRANSPOSE function, you can swap out the array with individual cells. The closing parenthesis will close the formula and display the output in the lower-left corner of the worksheet. You can add spaces or punctuation to the result.
The CONCATENATE Function in Excel requires one cell reference. If you want to concatenate several columns, you should use the Merge Cells add-in to perform the process. To do this, you must ensure that you have the latest version of Office. The previous versions of Excel did not contain the CONCATENATE function. The CONCATENATE Function in a single cell must be written as a single cell reference.
