Unreal Engine 5 Tutorial: Building a Simple Blank Level from Scratch
Welcome to my tutorial on starting from scratch in Unreal Engine! Sometimes, using premade level templates isn't what you're looking for. In this video, I'll show you how to begin with a completely empty level and guide you through the process step by step.
First, open your project and navigate to the "File" menu. Select "New Level" and ensure that you choose the "Empty Level" option. Click "Create," and voila! You now have a blank canvas to work with.
To make your level visible, we'll need to add some basic light and landscape. Switch to landscape mode (or press SHIFT + 2) and click "Create." If you're interested in learning more about landscape and level design, be sure to check out the tutorial I've linked.
Next, let's add some basic lighting to enhance the scene. Go to the "Window" menu and select "Environment Lighting Mixer." Simply enable all the elements by clicking on each one. Once done, return to selection mode with SHIFT + 1. If you'd like a deeper understanding of lighting, I cover more about it in another tutorial, so feel free to explore that too.
Now, when you hit the "Play" button, you'll be able to see and interact with your basic level in action.
