How Storytelling Impacts Your Gaming Experience
We all know and love our classic characters like The Legend of Zelda’s Link, Earthbound’s Ness, Mario, Samus, Chrono and many more. Gaming today is filled with massive maps and expansive characters, but back then, all of our favorite characters rarely, if ever, uttered a single word.
Modern characters like God of War’s Kratos, Ghost of Tsushima’s Jin Sakai, or Joel Miller from The Last of Us, can rival (and honestly sometimes outshine) movie studios in the storytelling we see in incredible cutscenes and lore we find out from general gameplay.
Today, I wanted to explore the ways that storytelling and narratives have evolved, and talk about how just because these methods are different does not necessarily make the modern style any better than the classic style of character writing.
Also, after coming up with this video idea & creating the script and thumbnail, I noticed it looks a lot like Internet Pitstop's video on the same topic, however, the content of both videos is pretty different.
