What is an ESA and does your SMSF need one?
ESA stands for electronic service address.
It's actually very different from email address, which some trustees get confused with. And it's definitely something that you need if you're employed and if your employer is paying your superannuation contributions into your SMSF.
It's really a way of communicating between the employer and your self managed superannuation fund, for the employer to be able to comply with the super stream obligations.
So for you to be able to receive employer contributions into your SMSF, you definitely need to give them your SMSF ABN, obviously the bank account details, but as well the ESA details. Now, there are many free providers as well, so it's not that hard to obtain this information and get signed up. Very important to get it sorted if you want to have your employer contributions being paid into the SMSF.
