Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 in 2021 - Overclocking to 5GHz+ on LN2
So the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 is probably one of the most popular and notable desktop processors ever in the history of personal computers. It was relatively affordable when it came out in 2006 and the so-called entry level quad core on the 775 platform. It is one of those 775 CPUs I really want to hold the record scores with in the main important benchmarks of that time era when it comes to 2D/CPU and memory benchmarking, and those tests are Super PI 1M and 32M, Pifast and wPrime 32M and 1024M as well as the maximum CPUz core frequency validation.
The best single core Q6600 I found myself long ago, I think in 2015-2016 by an accident. This second CPU is an absolute monster when it comes to multi core overclocking as it can run all of the 4 cores above 5GHz on LN2. My first CPU has very weak 3rd and 4th core so it is awesome only for single core stuff and can validate 5.2GHz. This second one was found when I helped TaPaKaH or Sam.OCX to LN2 test his best air binned chips. So on this session and video we only try the Q6600 again in WPrime, as I lost the 32M record to Iranians some time ago.
Now with more knowledge it is easier to revisit the CPU. It went pretty much as I expected, so maximum frequency for all core ended up being close to 5.05GHz. Vcore up to 1.98v and no OCP (over-current protection) on the Rampage Extreme Team Finland edition.
