Chapter Summary.
In this chapter, Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion journey to the land of the Quadlings to find Glinda the Good Witch, who they believe can help Dorothy return to Kansas. After being advised by the Winged Monkeys that only Glinda can help, the group sets off to the south, guided by the enchanted Golden Cap which allows them to summon the Winged Monkeys for assistance.
As they travel through the rich, fertile lands of the Quadlings, they encounter various obstacles. They come across a dense forest inhabited by ferocious trees with branches that attack intruders. The Tin Woodman skillfully chops down the threatening trees to clear their path. Continuing their journey, they arrive at a high wall made of white china. Dorothy and her friends manage to climb over it, finding themselves in a beautiful and delicate china country where everything, including the people and animals, is made of china. The china inhabitants are fragile and concerned about being broken, so the travelers proceed with caution.
After leaving the china country, they continue southward until they reach the castle of Glinda the Good Witch. Glinda welcomes them warmly, and Dorothy explains her desire to return home to Kansas. Glinda agrees to help and asks for the Golden Cap in return, planning to use it to free the Winged Monkeys from their enchantment. Dorothy and her friends are hopeful as they prepare to receive Glinda's guidance, which they believe will finally lead Dorothy back to her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry.
