Let's talk about desperados. Desperado in common parlance: a desperate or reckless person, especially a criminal. That sure sounds like a lot of people. In chess, a desperado is when a piece is about to be captured, but gives itself up with tempo to win material. The first example features mental agility, because when you realize you can grab a free rook with check before capturing the opponent's queen on c3, you quickly realize you get a free rook.
In the second example, a desperado is met by a counter-desperado, leaving Black up a piece. Finally, the last example features using a desperado to save an awkward position with a precarious piece in the middle of the board. Through a well-executed desperado, Black would have been able to save the game.
