Federal government limits work hours for international students
International students are now limited to working 24 hours a week. Immigration Minister Marc Miller has said reintroducing this pre-pandemic cap will ensure that international students can focus on their studies, while having the option to work — but some students are worried about cost of living.
UPDATE (Sept. 3, 2024): Immigration Minister Marc Miller said last spring the new rules would take effect in September, however a spokesperson for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada said in an email on Sept. 3 that the federal department is still working toward implementing the regulatory changes and could not provide a more specific timeline.
