Lens Adapters For Mirrorless Cameras Primer | How And Why Guide
In this video I talk about adapting older SLR and DSLR lenses to mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras that have a short flange focal distance. This newer style of camera opens a huge amount of possibilities to use older lenses with varying levels of control through the camera. The main reason all of this happened is that with many older camera systems they needed space to fit optical elements like mirrors, pentaprisms, and secondary autofocus systems. With mirrorless cameras the view you see through the electronic viewfinder comes directly from the sensor. It's the same situation for the camera's ability to autofocus. Considering that mirrorless cameras uses less room between their native lenses and cameras, that allows the older lenses to use with a correctly sized spacer. Of course, it's not that simple and some lenses require electronics and other components to work fully with a given mirrorless camera. In this video I talk about the subject and provide various examples I have on hand such as the Canon EF-M mirrorless system in combination with Canon EF lenses. I also show a few other lenses such as Nikon and M42 screw mount.
