In a separate incident, a group of thugs stormed the home of a nurse from the Efata School for the Blind in Mthatha and demanded payment of R50,000.
Executive Director of NAPTOSA Basil Manuel says communities must reclaim schools and make them safe spaces again. He says turning a blind eye to criminality will most likely escalate violence in schools.
