Final Fantasy XIV PS5 Backwards Compatibility Gameplay Performance Test 4K60 (PS4 Pro Mode)
If you've been playing FFXIV on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro, then you'll know that the framerate never really stays at 60fps. How does it perform on PlayStation 5? Please note that this is not the PS5 version of Final Fantasy XIV. This is still the PS4 version of the game. When the beta is available to play on PlayStation 5 in April, I'll be sure to test it out.

For this video, PS4 Pro mode has been selected as the Display Setting. Previously, I had a 1080p display and I couldn't select PS4 Pro mode. I believe that's because the PS5 doesn't have a Supersampling Mode like PS4 Pro does. In this mode, the game is running at 1440p and 60fps. Draw distance is also set to high. Much like PS4 Standard mode on PS5, Final Fantasy XIV appears to run at a smooth 60fps on PS5 from the 20 minutes I played. I'm not very far in the game, as you can tell, but I didn't notice any drops during this playthrough.
It'll be interesting to see how the PS5 version of this game will look and perform on PlayStation 5. Especially with the load times because they already seem pretty good on PS5. Although, in that video they shared it looks nearly instantaneous, so that's pretty cool. 4K is always a welcome resolution no matter what display you're playing on, and I do hope it can maintain 60fps.
