First and Foremost, I'm sure you all know that today is April 1st (unless you haven't been paying attention to your calendars) and that today is April Fools' Day. And for April Fools Day, I normally upload something unusual that many people would think is fake and that I did. However, I got MORE to share with you today and that's because today April 1st is listed as "4/01" on the Calendar! Those same digits are also the name of one of Otises' most legendary elevator models ever, The Elevonic 401! As of the past few years, this whole trend of Elevator Enthusiasts uploading Elevonic 401s on this day has started, and today, I decided to join in on the fun!
Otis introduced this model all the way back in 1981 as the 2nd generation of Computerized/Solid State Microprocessor Controlled Elevators following the short lived Elevonic 101, and this model featured automated voices, security systems built in, and many other features elevators installed today have, but with about the same level of build quality as what came before it (the Autotronics and VIP-260s), and to Celebrate, we have this original Elevonic 401 system dating all the way back to 1983 to ride, located in one of Downtown Seattle's tallest buildings, the former Wells Fargo Center, now known as 999 3rd Ave!
These elevators are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING in every way possible! From the Beautiful Cabs, Bronze COPs and fast speed of 1200 FPM, these elevators are a TON of fun and are very aesthetically attractive looking! What's even more amazing and quite shocking about these elevators however is their AGE!!! Being that this elevator system dates back to 1983 and it's 2023 now, these elevators are OFFICIALLY 40 YEARS OLD!!! Despite this however, these DO NOT look it whatsoever! The Classic Custom Series 1 fixtures not only look modern to this day, but are in EXCELLENT Condition, the Indicators Light Up Nice and Brightly, these are Not only VERY FAST but also VERY Smooth, the Cabs look pretty modern and my FAVORITE High Pitched Otis chimes which these elevators still feature to this day also work nice and loudly too! The only signs on age these elevators show AT ALL is one of the cars having a slight rattle while traveling (which I don't mind one bit) and the beepers on some of the cars sounding a bit weak. MINUS these two things however, these elevators don't look or feel like they've aged a BIT in their now 40 years of service, and these elevators look SO MODERN that had I known NOTHING about elevators, I'd think these were from the 2000s and think you're probably smoking crack if you told me it was from the 80s! Let alone EARLY 80s!!!
All in all, these are just an ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE & AMAZING Set of Otis Elevonic 401s that I'm very happy to see STILL ORIGINAL and holding up THIS well 40 YEARS after their original installation date! Whoever is maintaining these elevators is doing a PHENOMENAL JOB and I hope they keep it up for many years to come! Despite their age, I LITERALLY see NO REASON to Modernize these, and being that these elevators got new badge readers just a few weeks prior to filming this, it appears odds are currently in favor of these!
In addition to the Main High Rise Elevators, we also ride the NEVER BEFORE SEEN Service Elevator, which despite being a Service Elevator is ALSO holding up extremely well, is decently quick for a single Service Elevator in a High Rise Office Building, and has EASILY the BIGGEST Regular Series 1 panel I've EVER SEEN! We could only get a one way ride on it down, but hey, that's better than nothing!
And the best part about all of this is that these elevators are SUPER Easy to Access too!
And with that, I hope you enjoy the video, this one being of a PERFECT Example of one of the Earliest & IMO one of the Nicest and FUNNEST Installations in Existence of Otises' LEGENDARY Elevonic 401 Elevator System to Celebrate 401 Day with!
Installed in 1983.
