Welcome today to a virtual walking tour around the historic Cathedral Quarter of Lincoln.
*BIG Apologies for the loss of voice recording a few minutes in, something must have come undone somewhere, I didn’t notice until editing, I hope the information inserts make up for it, and hopefully things will be back to normal next time.
Lincoln Cathedral is built at the top of the highest point in Lincoln, where once stood a Roman Fort. Construction started in 1072 by William the Conqueror and has been changed, added to and renovated many times over hundreds of years.
The Bailgate area that surrounds the Cathedral was once a thriving Viking trading settlement and this is where many of its street names originate from, this area is now a very popular place to eat out, with its many restaurants, hotels and pubs.
Reaching this area from lower Lincoln means a walk up Steep Hill, a 14% gradient street that has many unique shops and cafes along its way.
Our walking tour today around this beautiful area of Lincoln with many historic buildings, is like taking a walk through time.
Starting at the Cathedral and ending at the bottom of Steep Hill, this was filmed on a quiet, sunny spring day over Easter April 2021, when I took a trip to this lovely city.
