Review of Stage 11 Dakar Rally 2023. First Day of the Marathon.
The Dakar Rally has completed the first part of the harsh marathon test, which means that the crews will not be able to get to their mechanics after Thursday's stage and have to deal with any problems on their own. Of the Czechs, the three Martins did the most. The one with the surname Macík finished second among the trucks and remains third overall. Martin Prokop jumped to sixth place in the car category, and motorcyclist Martin Michek is thirteenth.
Among the bikers, Luciano Benavides won, but Skyler Howes continues to lead. Martin Michek finished 16th and dropped to 13th in the overall ranking, when Argentinean Franco Caimi got ahead of him by just 12 seconds.
It was a one man show in the car class on Thursday. Sébastien Loeb started the stage first, he was first in all intermediate times and he is also first at the finish line. However, Nasser al-Attíja leads with a big lead of one hour and 20 minutes. Martin Prokop lost ten and a half minutes to Loeb, finished tenth and improved to sixth overall. This equals his and the Czech maximum among cars from 2019. He is now 40 minutes behind fifth place de Villiers.
A very interesting situation occurred in the category of trucks. The winner was Martin van den Brink, who almost erased the previous lead of leader Janus van Kasteren. There is now just a minute difference between the two Dutchmen. Martin Macík remains in third place. He finished second in the stage, but lost 18 minutes to Van den Brink.
