When you upload clips to Facebook or YouTube you have been able to have the platform generate the subtitles automatically. The accuracy of the results have been questionable but at least it was an option. You didn't have the option for AI to analyse the dialogue in your clip and create the transcript directly within Adobe Premiere Pro, until version 15.4 that is.
In this clip I walk through the process to show how easy and quick it is.
I think this a big deal and I don't think Adobe made enough noise about it. After all, captions are a must for videos now but at the same time actually creating them is always a chore. Anything to speed that up must a good thing.
You may ask, why not just do it when you upload to YouTube or Facebook? Or use an external provider such as Otter.ai (which I have an annual licence for) to generate the transcript and .SRT? Well, for lots of reasons. Being able to do everything within Premiere saves time and is more efficient. Your clip may not be destined for YouTube or Facebook so why upload there? And if you are already paying for Premiere, why spend money with other providers?
My big negative is the accuracy is not as high as Adobe believe, based on my experience so far. More mistakes means more time needed to proofread the transcript. So it's not perfect by any means but a very welcome upgrade to Premiere's functionality.
