The MK I model was a virtual copy of a design I found on Youtube but I've made some modifications to come up with the MK II in this video which has a MUCH cleaner burn. This was the first test of the MK II model and there is a lot of room for improvement but I'm very pleased with how it compares to the MK I.
This would be of virtually no practical use in generating electricity but it would sure as hell make a good camping stove, which is what I intend using it for. Notice that the flame is quite bright near the beginning of the video; this is due to unburnt carbon (soot) glowing in the flame because there isn't enough oxygen to burn all of the combustible gasses. As the gasification gets under way and the wood pellets at the top of the stack are turned into charcoal, you see that the flame gets decidedly less incandescent, although it is still orange in colour which tells us that more oxygen is needed in the gas stream. I'll work on that.
Incidentally, the fuel used in this video is recycled sawdust compressed into environmentally friendly carbon neutral biomass fuel pellets; they're marketed under the name of "Tesco Ultra Absorbent Wood Cat Litter".
