A Guide to Switching to Linux | Manjaro Edition: Part 3 (Encrypting the Home Folder)
In this video, I show you how to encrypt your home folder on Manjaro after installation.
Disclaimer: While the odds are extremely low, there is a very small chance that setting up encryption on your home folder will cause data loss. Because of this, it's a good idea to make a backup of your data beforehand. I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DATA LOSS THAT MAY OCCUR BY FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE!
Commands:
Install ecryptfs: sudo pacman -S ecryptfs-utils lsof
Load ecryptfs kernel module: sudo modprobe ecryptfs
Set up home folder encryption: sudo ecryptfs-migrate-home -u [username] (example: sudo ecryptfs-migrate-home -u drew)
Make home folder writable: sudo chmod 700 /home/[username] (example: sudo chmod 700 /home/drew)
Delete unencrypted backup of home folder (AFTER YOU HAVE MADE SURE THAT ALL YOUR DATA HAS BEEN MIGRATED!): sudo rm -rf /home/[unencrypted home folder backup] (example: sudo rm -rf /home/drew.NjlWjdHC)
