I Went to China to Act in Movies...and this happened.
This is my latest reel, now featuring scenes from my most recent role: Mike Evans in China's original Three Body Problem! This role was a dream come true, as the Three Body Problem is an incredible work of art, and Mike Evans has incredible depth, sadness, intelligence, and potential.
When I embarked on my journey to China, I really had no idea what would happen. At the time, my Mandarin was absolutely terrible. But, I knew that there were close to zero Western trained actors who could speak Mandarin; China's film industry was simultaneously expanding rapidly, and I felt there would be a need for more people with this skill. The barrier to entry is something most people seem unwilling to climb, which makes it all the more simple to win. You just have to sit down and commit to learning Chinese.
I believe Mandarin Chinese is an opportunity magnifier. Whatever you already do can most likely be multiplied many times over if you stack Mandarin Chinese on top. I followed that path, and gained millions of followers in China, and snagged roles most Hollywood actors would love to have! Now, I hope to help other people learn Chinese as well. I think it begets SO much opportunity. What do you think?
