The hidden true story in Moana 😲
In Moana, her grandma says their people stopped exploring after Maui stole the heart of Ta Fiti and boats stopped coming back, about 1,000 years before. This describes a real historical event in Polynesian history known as the “Long Pause”.
The cause of the pause is actually unknown.
But there is a related detail.
There are 15 stones of past chiefs in the sacred place, and given that the average life expectancy is around 65, that means they have been on the island for 1,000 years, which coincides with the time when Maui stole Te Fiti's Heart and banned travel for the first time by former chiefs.
