Very popular fish in the aquarium trade. Personally I don't think there is a better algae eater for surface algae then this species. They are an active fish that likes well oxygenated water and hiding places. This species has a tendency to sometimes become aggressive with tank mates, especially as they get bigger and older. Tank size is important especially when they start outgrowing smaller tanks. Large adults require swimming space and a larger tank is a must and house well with African Cichlids.
