QEmu in-the-loop development – Maciej Nowak – code::dive 2021
Abstract
Development teams often compile and run code on different architectures than the target devices (i.e., x86/x64 instead of Cortex-M). This is dictated by the speed of development and availability of tools - ease of compiling, running, and debugging allows rapid development.
However, it also leads to deferred or limited testing on the target device. Late discovery of unwanted toolchain “features”, differences in memory usage, or lack of support for certain operations can lead to unpredicted issues. Discovered early, they are easier to fix.
During my presentation, I will discuss how using QEmu for embedded software development allows rapid development while keeping the tools and code as close to the target hardware as possible.
About the Speaker – Maciej Nowak
Maciej started his adventure with professional software development over 10 years ago with .NET and web browser.
Six years ago, he changed his professional course and currently works on flight software for satellites. Between December 2018 and February 2021, Maciej was part of the PW-Sat2 operations team.
In his spare time, he likes to watch Star Trek while poking around cables connected to another microcontroller.
