Norilsk is located 300 km north of the Arctic Circle, south of the Taimyr Peninsula. The city belongs to the Krasnoyarsk Territory, although it is located 1500 km from Krasnoyarsk itself. This is the land of tundra, permafrost — and valuable minerals. The city appeared here precisely because of the rich deposits of nickel, palladium, platinum, copper, rhodium, cobalt and rhodium.
Now more than 180 thousand people live in Norilsk — it is the northernmost city in the world with a population of more than 150 thousand people. Norilsk began with the hut of a geological expedition and literally in 15 years turned into a large city by northern standards. The city is divided into 3 districts — Central, Talnakh and Kayerkan. Oganer belongs to the Central district, which, according to the idea of the builders, was to become an example of a modern northern city. And Talnakh and Kayerkan were separate cities until 2004.
It is cold in Norilsk most of the year — even in July the temperature rarely rises above +18°C. But summer happens here, though very short. With the onset of heat, it turns out that there are lawns, shrubs, and sometimes even small trees on the streets.
. Norilsk appeared on the map of the country in 1935. Then it was a closed working settlement, where the builders of the Norilsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine lived. The city appeared here precisely because of the rich deposits of minerals. Norilsk MMC was transformed into Norilsk Nickel Corporation in 1989 — and now the company ranks first in the world in the production of nickel and palladium, 12% of the world's platinum, 8% of rhodium, 2% of copper and cobalt are mined here.
The city was built in several stages — from barrack-type houses they moved to the buildings of the architects of the Leningrad school, and then they began to build Soviet high-rise buildings. The city is still growing — they plan to demolish dilapidated housing, build new modern houses and restore historical buildings in the center.
Two houses with symmetrical pompous towers are located at the entrance to the city, immediately behind them begins Leninsky Prospekt — the main street of the city. And all visitors to Norilsk are greeted by a monument to V. I. Lenin, which was installed in 1954. Due to the harsh northern climate, the sculpture and the pedestal have already been restored several times.

Together with the gates of Norilsk, it is considered the "face" of the city. For the development of this architectural ensemble, the authors could even receive the Stalin Prize, but the application was not delivered to Moscow in time for the start of the competition. At one time, they wanted to install fountains next to Oktyabrskaya Square, and in one of the buildings they wanted to build an air terminal where passengers would check in and then take a special bus to the airport. But these ideas were abandoned.
The Aika Sports Hall is the largest sports ground and concert hall in Norilsk.
The name comes from the name of the bear cub, which was saved in the 1970s by documentary filmmaker Yuri Ledin. The little bear lived in the apartment of her savior for several years, walked through the streets of the city. When the bear grew up, they tried to send her to the natural environment — to one of the islands of the Franz Josef archipelago. But she did not take root there and Ike was transferred to the Berlin Zoo.
Leninsky Prospekt runs almost through the entire central part of Norilsk — it starts at Oktyabrskaya Square and ends at Metallurgists Square. The most significant buildings of the city have been built on Leninsky Prospekt — the Polar Star Hotel, the Norilsk Nickel administration, the administration, the museum, the Drama Theater, the House of Culture. And in 2006, a life-size sculpture of a reindeer was installed on the avenue.
