Austin PATHFINDER pedal car!
A spot of classic pedal car news at OCC HQ, with the arrival of a 1949 Austin Pathfinder, a large all-steel pedal car produced by Austin alongside the more popular J40 at a purpose-built factory in South Wales. While J40 production lasted until the beginning of the 1970s, the Austin Pathfinder was only built for a year or so. Maybe it didn't prove popular?
This pint-sized pedal racer was inspired by the Austin 7 twin-cam racers of the 1930s. As I explain in the video, there's a good reason for taking on this project pedal car. I'd been looking around at a few project cars for a week or two when, out of the blue, I heard about this Pathfinder. The timing was perfect, so arrangements were made and I, with my youthful assistant, headed northwards to collect this classic pedal car. The previous owner had owned it for decades, in fact since he was a young child, and clearly had a soft spot for the Austin, having hauled it around the country during various housemoves since the 1950s.
