Vehicle Routing Problem: Timing
For customers, delivery timing is often more important than the total delivery duration. If a customer needs to be home to receive a parcel (e.g., due to cold chain requirements, for valuable goods, or for installation), they hope that delivery occurs during their preferred time window. To be able to find routes that adhere to time windows, we must introduce a notion of time.
A part of the mathematical formulation contains "big-Ms" and setting a good M (not too high, but not restricting the optimal solution) is crucial. Here, practice makes perfect!
