I've recently invested in a couple of flashlights to test, review and use and my research has naturally found me looking at the FL1 standard. The FL1 standard was introduced in 2009 by the American National Standards Institute as a way of clearing up marketing nonsense used by increasing numbers of torch manufacturers. The idea is to avoid random and technically meaningless phrases and force manufacturers to measure their flashlights in the same way. A consumer can then make a direct apple to apple comparison.
This video is my beginner attempt to explain the seven essential parts of the FL1 standard in a way that I hope most of you will understand.
