We cover a useful trick to merge cells without using merge & centre and the drawbacks that come with it. In our example, we have fictitious investment fund data. For most of the funds, we have data for the Returns, ESG Rating, Fees and Fund Size. The exception is one fund where the data is missing. To make it look more presentable, we may want to merge the 4 cells that currently have N/A values. The issue is that when we try to filter one of the columns, we are unable to do so, due to the merged cells. This is because all cells need to be the same size. Therefore, we have a dilemma - we want to make the table look presentable but at the same time we want to sort to make the data more useful. To overcome this, we can use horizontal text alignment.
