Our video today is about a man stunned a leopard with a single hit in its head. Loss of habitat which forces leopards to venture into both urban and rural areas in certain parts of India. In some cases old and sick leopards which have damaged canines and claws can become maneaters since they can't hunt fast moving prey. Of all the big cats leopards are the most versatile. They can and do adapt themselves wherever they are found around the world. Be it the snow leopard in the frozen heights of Ladakh or the extremely elusive Arabian leopard in the blazing in day and freezing at night sandy wastes of Arabia, the urban leopards of Borivali or the leopards of the western ghats or the Himalayas or those in Indian peninsula or those in Africa, these creatures are masters of camouflage and survival. They can live off almost anything and human settlements offer easy prey base. Leopards are very fond of dogs. The obvious way to minimise human leopard conflict is to give the animals space. One intersecting case study is the leopard population in a rocky terrain in South Rajasthan. The rocks and caves house one of the highest density of leopards while there are a number of temples on these hills. Till date there has been no instance of leopard attack in and around these centuries old temples. Just try not to wipe off their prey base, don’t destroy the forest , don’t take avoidable risks, don’t provoke may help in reducing man animal conflict. However, when the human leopard conflict occurs then humans have to do whatever they possibly can to save their lives.
