Assam State Zoo-Cum-Botanical Garden welcomes 5 new inmates, receives Zebras after three decades
Assam State Zoo-Cum-Botanical Garden in Guwahati on May 30 welcomed 5 new inmates. Out of five new inmates, one is Giraffe and two are Zebras, the Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden received Zebras after nearly 30 years. The female giraffe aged 5 years has been brought from Patna, Bihar and it will be an addition to the male giraffe in the zoo. The two zebras, one male and one female, have been brought from Mysore, Karnataka. Assam Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has named the zebras as Joy and Joya. PCCF & HoFF M.K. Yadav, DFO Assam State Zoo Sri Ashwini Kumar and other officials were present on the occasion.
Indrani Borgohain, Ranger of Assam State Zoo, said, “We bought 2 zebras & 2 mandarin ducks from Mysore Zoo, & one giraffe from Patna Zoo. We are planning to bring other animals as well. In zoo enclosures, we have provided shower & bathtub facilities for black bears so they can cool off in the summer heat. For tigers, we have provided fans so that they can stay cool in the summer heat.”
