In this video, I will talk about a free open-source alternative to Scribe, to create how to guides visually with screenshots.
What to click is a free and open-source Firefox plugin that lets you create how to guides with screenshots, cursor location, and link names. It is a decent alternative to Scribe which is also used to create how to guides.
Using it is very easy. You start by installing it from the Firefox addons page.
After installation, you can start using it right away. Click on its icon and when the live label appears on it, you can start browsing web apps and websites.
It will now keep recording the current page, clicks, and will keep adding them in an organized documentation.
When you want to stop, click on the icon of this add-on once again.
As soon as you do that, a new tab will open with all the steps listed and with screenshots. It includes link names and the screenshots where it recorded the click event.
Now, you can just save this how to guide in PDF or HTML format. Give it a name and then you are done.
Open the final PDF file and then see all the steps. This document can now be shared with anybody.
That’s how you can use this open-source alternative to Scribe.
