Hey, how's it going? My name is Mike and I talk about branding. You may have heard that Walmart is going to close their self-checkouts and start charging people, a monthly fee to use them. Let's talk about it.
Walmart and its brand.
I don't think that you can make an argument. For any positive aspects for Walmart's brand.
Walmart's dirty. It's unsafe.
I feel like I'm going to get a disease. When I go in there from all the people, open mouth coughing.
Make sure you don't leave your stuff in your car. Cause it'll probably get broken into. Make sure your wallet's not hanging out of your pocket. It's probably going to get snatched.
And then there's the classic walk. After checking out. To the weird little old man who wants to check your receipt. To make sure that you're not a criminal.
Walmart is such a money. Grubbing POS. That it implemented self checkout, so not to improve the customer experience, but to simply just get rid of more cashiers. It was a, another way to try to save money. They didn't. Keep their cashiers and add self checkout. No, no, no. They got rid of the cashiers and got self-checkout.
Walmart cares and stands for one thing, low prices.
It's their brand. It's in their brand name. So what comes with low prices?
The cleanliness and the safety of your customers. You get an F.
The restrooms are disgusting, blood P and S everywhere. Oh, my God don't even go in there.
The store cleanliness is disgusting. Make sure you're going to wash your hands. When you leave the store, don't touch your face. Don't touch your eyes. Oh, you're going to get sick.
Customer service is absolute trash. The people that work there are not paid enough, so they are depressed and sad. They do not want to be there. They don't dress nice. They barely make it out of bed. When they get to work, they don't care. And why would they. The company treats them like trash pays them like trash and doesn't do anything to help them in their lives.
If you're not stumbling over products that have fallen off the shelves into the aisle. You're probably at a nicer Walmart.
How secure and how safe you feel at Walmart is not good. I would not let my wife go there by herself. I would not encourage any woman to go to Walmart by themselves, especially with a small child.
The parking lots are full of homeless people, full of drug users, drug paraphernalia, littered on the streets, drug needles, joints. It's all there. Nobody picks it up. Nobody cares.
Every decision that Walmart makes is to save a little bit of money. That's really all they care about. So now they want to charge people a monthly fee to use the checkout lane.
Going to Walmart is a necessity in life right now because things are so bad. Things are so bad that people go there and they deal with all of this disgusting nonsense just to get. Some bread, some eggs, some clothes for a little cheaper, so they can make it through the month.
Is it a necessary evil.
Because every person that it touches, it hurts.
I asked myself the question, how could a company grow like this? But it's really simple. It's for profits only. It's a numbers game. They're playing a numbers game. Only no ethics. No responsibility. They don't look at the social ramifications of what they're doing. All they care about is that dollar amount. And the Excel spreadsheet.
Could they do something about this?
Could Walmart turn the brand around?
Probably. But my God, it would be a lot of work and they would need to charge more for their products. So they had more money to put towards things like.
Getting your stores clean and safe. Clean and safe. If your store is not clean and safe. Oh my God. What are you doing?
Our time so bad that people are willing to risk their safety. Just to get bread for a little cheaper.
And you may think I'm talking trash about people.
But I go to Walmart to, I buy stuff from Walmart all the time. Things are expensive right now. Bill's hit hard these days. The post COVID world is not a fun place to be.
But I still don't think that's an excuse to treat your customers like this.
Walmart could cut its profits and pay its employees more. Walmart could cut its profits and get its stores clean and safe.
But they won't and they'll continue to make America look like a dump. From the rest of the world. Why we let companies like this exist and thrive. I don't know.
I'll continue to go to target for as long as I can. But target doesn't have everything like Walmart does.
Do you like Walmart? Do you love Walmart? Do you not mind going to Walmart? Is your Walmart in like a really nice part of California and it's just, the floors are clean and everyone's smiling. Let me know in the comments, what your Walmart is like.
What do you think they could do to Walmart to make it better?
Or do you think they should just nuke it from space at this point? I think they should just nuke it from space.
