How to create proxies in Premiere Pro CC to edit 4k, 6k and 8k footage on a laptop.
Using proxies in Adobe Premiere allowed me to edit this project on my laptop even tho all this 4k, 5k, 6k and 8k footage was shot using a RED Weapon and a RED Dragon at full resolution and I was actually able to edit the picture lock and 4K 3D graphics on my 2015 Macbook Pro with no real issues.

In this video you'll learn to create proxies in Premiere Pro by first properly configuring your project and enabling Proxies under the Media menu in you preferences and adding the Proxy column via the Metadata display options so you can keep up with the video clips that have attached proxies, offline proxies or no proxies.
Keep in mind, this tutorial was made on a laptop running Screenflow AND Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015, which goes to show how efficient these proxies are when working with RED 6K files
How to edit 4k videos.
Steps:
• Right click no the top of the Project Panel and select "Metadata Display"
• On the search bar type "Proxy" and enable it
• By default the Proxy column appears at the very end (scroll right) of your Project Panel so locate the Proxy column and rearrange the location to the front (scroll left next to the clip names)
• Go to Preferences and select "Media"
• On the Media menu click the "Enable Proxies" check box and hit "OK"
• Back on the Project panel, Shift+Select the footage you'd like to create proxies for, right-click, locate "Proxy" and select "Create Proxies..."
• On the pop-up box choose the destination for your proxies. I recommend selecting a dedicated folder only for your proxies on your fastest available hard drive and click "OK"
• Adobe Media Encoder will automatically open and begin creating proxies.
• Back in Premiere, you should now see the status of your Proxy next to the corresponding video clips on the Proxy column in the Project panel, an empty field, the word "Attached" or "Offline".
• Once all proxies are done exporting and you see the word "Attached" on the Proxy column, you are set to go.
