Reading Machiavelli
In this episode of Reading for Wisdom, we discuss ten favourite, and some essential, books that help the beginner and the curious learn more about, and explore the ideas and lifetime of that political and intellectual revolutionary, Nicolo Machiavelli. Our ten books include two that are great guides to what we believe is essential in understanding Machiavelli - understanding his times and surroundings i.e. Renaissance Florence. The next four are our 'guided tours'; works by scholars like the great Quentin Skinner on their interpretation on Machiavelli's thought, importance and relevance. It really just focuses on The Prince so misses the point somewhat. A great watch though. I recommend watching Professor Smith's complete political philosophy course on Yale's open lecture channel. A tour de force.
