The prep videos have led you to this moment - time to cut and assemble your first shirt! Since I know this video is kind of long, I'll break it out into key topics below. If this is your first time making a shirt, I do recommend watching the whole thing because I give tidbits of helpful hints throughout.
0:00 - Materials
0:47 - Cutting out the pattern pieces
5:18 - Why make a Raglan?
5:49 - Pinning/clipping together to sew
6:54 - 2 options of neck band attachment - in the round, or straight
8:00 - Sewing the pieces together (sleeves, front, and back)
9:20 - Attaching the neckband (straight method; see upcoming video for the in the round version)
13:35 - Closing off the 4th side of the shirt and finishing assembly
15:47 - Prepping the shirt for hemming
17:59 - Two methods of topstitching - single needle or double needle. If you want to use a single needle you can use the same stretch stitch used already and skip these double needle instructions. Just topstitch with a stretch stitch at about 5/8" to 3/4" seam allowance; whatever your pattern specified or whatever you prefer.
21:49 - What is tunnelling, and how to avoid it
23:26 - Hemming the sleeves with a twin needle
24:30 - Using an overlocker foot to get a cleaner inside seam finish
25:46 - Hemming the bottom edge
26:30 - Tying off your threads
27:09 - Finished shirt!
Both of my fabrics used are available online from Raspberry Creek Fabrics.
Pattern used is the Nico Raglan from Jalie.
