There are so many ways to lighten your backpack without needing to shell out for the most expensive gear. This list is nowhere near exhaustive, but will give you inspiration for shaving off ounces or pounds from your load.
Lighter packs means being able to travel farther into the backcountry with more comfort. And who doesn't want that?
I'm not an ultralight backpacker and don't plan to be one any time soon. I do love my luxury items and think bringing a hammock and camp shoes makes backpacking so much more enjoyable. However, I also know the importance of removing unnecessary weight to maximize my comfort while on the trail.
At the end of the day, it's all about finding the right balance for you. The good thing is you can always (and should) re-evaluate your gear list after any trip to add or remove items as you need. There's no right or wrong way to backpack, as long as you're spending time in nature and leaving no trace while you do it.
