Combined Lighting - Combining Hard and Soft light | Film Lighting Techniques
Learning about the quality of light - the differences between hard and soft light, is one of the first steps in your cinematic lighting journey.
Hard light vs soft light? I wonder if there is there a way to combine the two?
This was the question I set-out to answer in making this video. Hard light can be incredibly powerful. It's dramatic, it feels natural and it is so versatile in so many ways. Soft lighting in film however, is also incredibly beautiful, with the gentle wrap and creamy shadow falloff.
In todays lighting tutorial, I'm going to show you a technique that combines hard and soft light to produce some rather interesting results that you don't often see in film and video.
