During 'Surrealism: The Poetry of Dreams', the entertaining evening discussion program GoMA Talks explores the mind, imagination and art from a range of perspectives. How is the mind's capacity evolving? What contributions do philosophy, science, art and literature make to new ideas and innovations?
Antony Funnell (host), presenter of ABC Radio National's Future Tense program since 2009, is an award-winning journalist and broadcaster. He has fronted Media Report on ABC Radio National and has worked for many of the country's leading news and current affairs programs. In 2006 Funnell won a Walkley Award for his documentary The Financial Abuse of the Elderly and in 2003 he won the United Nations Media Peace Prize (Best Radio) for a program on Aboriginal customary law.
Dave Graney is an ARIA-award winning (Best Male Vocalist and Best Video) Australian rock musician and singer-songwriter from Mount Gambier, South Australia. Through his musical career Graney has fronted a number of bands including The Coral Snakes, The White Buffaloes and The Lurid Yellow Mist. As well as his musical talents, Graney has also recently published a memoir reflecting on his thirty years in the music industry in 1001 Australian Nights (Affirm Press, 2011), described as 'no standard rock'n'roll trip'.
Krissy Kneen is an author and works at Avid Reader bookshop in Brisbane's West End. Her work includes Swallow the Sound (Eat Books, 2007) and the well-known memoir Affection (Text Publishing, 2009). Kneen has also written and directed award winning short films, broadcast documentaries and drama for SBS Television and the ABC. She has been shortlisted three times for the Qld Premier's Literary Awards and her newest book, Triptych (Text Publishing), will be released in October 2011.
Noel Mengel, Chief music writer for The Courier-Mail, is one of the most respected writers on contemporary music in Australia with a career spanning 30 years. His first novel, RPM won the Queensland Premier's Literary Award for Best Emerging Author 2010, and has recently been published by the University of Queensland Press. RPM is a coming-of-age novel set in the early 1980s in a Queensland country town. For a group of young people on the cusp of adulthood, music is their bond and their escape.
Lucas Taylor is an Interactive Writer and Director at Hoodlum, an Emmy award-winning entertainment company based in Brisbane that specialises in producing high quality stories for multiple platforms. Taylor was lead writer on the recently launched multiplatform drama Slide (Foxtel, Hoodlum and Playmaker Media), and his other recent projects include Salt: Day X Exists (Sony), and Sleuth 101 Online (ABC TV, Mayhem Television and Bogan Entertainment). A graduate of Griffith University Film School, Taylor has also worked as a freelance script editor, producer and production manager, and has written and directed several short films.
