In 2014, a big ship called the tanker Kerala disappeared near a place called Angola. It was gone
for 8 days. When it showed up in Nigeria, all the oil was stolen, and the crew was missing. This
showed that pirates were moving from Somalia to West Africa.
In 2009, NATO started a mission to stop pirates near Somalia and by 2018, they had stopped all
the attacks. But then, pirates started attacking in another place in the Gulf of Guinea.
In Somalia, people became pirates because they were poor and the government wasn't strong
and Somalia's weak government made it easy for pirates to attack. In Nigeria, there are
arguments over oil, pirates steal oil because the government is corrupt and strong, and this
helps pirates steal.
Even today pirates still exist, they find new places to attack and new ways to steal because of
unfairness and problems in different countries.
