DIMM is the evolution of SIMM. Dual in-line memory module is faster and cooler -- literally -- and is crucial for high performance in personal and enterprise devices. Learn more about what DIMM is and what it does.

DIMM, or dual in-line memory module, is a type of computer memory that has essentially replaced SIMM -- or single in-line memory module. DIMM makes it possible to access things stored on a computer, transferring data from RAM chips to the computer.

Early PCs used SIMM, which only supported 32-bit data. Unfortunately, that was not enough for more advanced computers and laptops that needed fast connections. DIMM supports the 64-bit data connections to the motherboard that most memory modules require today. DIMM also has cooling capabilities, essential for overall increased computer performance.

Let us know what you think might be the next evolution to in-line memory modules in the comments below. And, please hit the like button.
