Father John Misty is the nom de pop of Josh Tillman, the multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who released a string of earnest folk records as J. Tillman in the 2000s. Following a brief stint as the drummer for indie folk darlings Fleet Foxes, Tillman re-branded himself under the Father John Misty moniker, striking a more declarative and kaleidoscopic musical stance.

The songs on his 2012 record, Fear Fun, were by turns gregarious, hilarious, and tongue-in-cheek indictments of throwaway pop culture, a theme expounded even more fully on his new album, I Love You, Honeybear. Produced by fellow Laurel Canyon disciple Jonathan Wilson, Father John Misty’s music is pure California pop for the ear, and deeply affecting lyrical essays for the intellect -- delivered with maximum beard.

Watch the expansive, melodic songwriter perform "Bored In The USA" from his aptly-Valentine-named new record in WNYC's Greene Space.
