What a not surprising revelation, haha. I did make the switch to a pair of Canon EOS M50 cameras. When I switch cameras I usually pick up a few spare batteries. If OEM are within a range of $35 I'll tend to go that route, but I usually buy 3rd party batteries such as Wasabi. I've always had pretty decent luck until now. It's my fault because I was curious to see how some of the cheapest options would be like. Within 2-3 days, one of these PowerExtra LP-E12 batteries is bloating and a crack formed in the back. I also noticed that the rated voltage is off compared to OEM, so I won't be getting a replacement and will be properly disposing of these. The PowerExtra seller did say they would refund me, which is nice. I've had a positive experience with their LP-E17 batteries I used in my Canon Rebel SL2, so it's too bad these are junk. I assume most of these companies outsource batteries from a handful of manufacturers, and in this specific case it is low quality and unreliable.
I've been talking about the M50 and making other short videos on IGTV here: / channel
