After you create an Excel pivot table, the source data may change. Items that were previously in the source are no longer included.

In this example, two regions are merged, and the Central region name is no longer in the source data.

When you refresh the pivot table, the Central region data disappears, but its name is still in the Region drop down.

This video shows how you can clear the old Region name, and prevent old items from appearing in the future.

This pivot table setting is available in Excel 2007 and later.
