Right now, there are more than 10,000 non-citizens living in New Orleans, according to the 2023 U.S. Census, and it's estimated that most are undocumented. But a Louisiana state law passed just last year bans the very policies that make New Orleans a sanctuary city, the only one in the Gulf states.
Why do we have sanctuary states?🤔
First off sanctuary states are jurisdictions that protect immigrants from deportation and allow them to work with law enforcement without fear of retribution. Sanctuary states exist at the city, state, and county level. Allow me to read off a few accommodations that comes with having a sanctuary state.
-Safety
Sanctuary states allow immigrants to feel safe reporting crimes and working with law enforcement, which can reduce crime rates.
-Community relations
Sanctuary states strengthen relations between local law enforcement and immigrant communities.
-Resource allocation
Sanctuary states allow local governments to decide how to allocate resources.
-Liability protection
Sanctuary states protect local law enforcement agencies from liability for enforcing federal immigration laws.
-Welcoming communities
Sanctuary states provide services and resources to help immigrants acclimate to their new communities.
Many still think if an illegal has a child in the United States the kid is automatically a US citizen. Trump's deportation plan is still onboard to the fact it's still an undocumented person and still won't get citizenship.
People may say What About The 14th. Amendment? Ok lets check it out.
No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
So what we are missing is the due process which really isn't taking place. From any news I've watched I don't see any numbers in which shows immigrants are being process to become US citizens. So whatever the US had up their sleeves in the beginning to allow them in may have back fired. But what was the deep dark secret behind this? comment below.
Also lets quickly check out the cost. At a staggering $150 billion dollars of taxpayers money it is costing us to clean up something that shouldn't happened in the first place. The US had a $150 billion dollars to spend on people that are looking for either a hand out, or to get over, or a better way of life. It would've been cheaper to pay them cash for them to go back over on their own. Thoughts
