Here is the most detailed simulation of a #quadcopter ever, at 3 billion microscopic (0.2mm)³ grid cells. With #FluidX3D we can finally have such high-quality multirotor #CFD simulations. Compute time was 8 hours on 4 Nvidia #A100 40GB GPUs, for 86k timesteps with rotor revoxelization (46k triangles each) every 4 timesteps, and 3 frames rendered every 48 timesteps. Bottom line, 9 billion cells updated per second despite rotor revoxelization and rendering.
At 8000 RPM, 12cm blade diameter and 1cm chord length, the Reynolds number here is fairly moderate at 34k, which allows for DNS-LES simulation.
