Comparing Blender's new fluid system with the old one
In this video that has a vary lengthy tittle, I compare the new fluid system in Blender, to the old one. The new fluid system (Mantaflow) offers more control and can be baked in stages, however it does take a lot more time to bake.
Though unlike the previous version it does freeze the UI (user interface) while it is calculating either the simulation, or the mesh, if you bake the simulation in stages, you can pause the bake to see how it is progressing.
