Montpelier, Vermont is a city that has famously and proudly supported local businesses. In fact, it's the only state capital in the US without a McDonald's or a Walmart. And based on its population size, it's the smallest capital city in the nation. But don't think for a second that just because Montpelier is small in size, it must also be lacking in other regards. It's a town that is fiercely proud of its heritage and traditions!
Independently-owned shops, boutiques, bakeries, restaurants, and galleries line the town's main street. There is a certain distinct buzzing in the air as residents and their dogs, visitors from all walks of life, and workers going about their daily routines bustle about on the city streets in this distinctly quaint and endearingly peculiar Vermont city.
Montpelier is a wonderful place to explore on foot or by bicycle. As you stroll or roll around the city, you'll find a scene that is bursting with inviting culture, excellent cuisine, pleasing art, and loads of diversity. To take in everything that Montpelier has going for it, we recommend parking your car and experiencing everything that awaits you in Montpelier the old-fashioned way. And if you have a four-legged companion, you'll be pleased to discover that Montpelier is one of the most dog-friendly towns in the country.
